Pridepower: Supporting the LGBTQIA+ community this month
Kidpower International's new "Pridepower" personal safety course is my recommended resource
When I visited New York City in June 2019, Pride Month rainbows were everywhere It was encouraging to see, but one could wonder if it was just a corporate branding exercise, or would people really stand up for equality.
We are seeing this year how much right-wing backlash is being generated against even mild expressions of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, things that would have felt utterly innocuous to many of us. Now the rubber meets the road: it is really important for those of us who embrace and support all people to speak up for inclusive values and LGBTQIA+ equality & rights.
A new viral post on Facebook says it so well:
I am excited to share a great new resource with you that will help all of us be courageous upstanders! Pridepower by Kidpower International is a personal safety course made by and for people who face greater risks of discrimination because of their sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression. It is also by and for people who support this community. Learn more at: www.kidpower.org/pridepower
I am a Kidpower International Senior Program Leader and I would be very happy to talk to you about Pridepower and additional personal safety resources. This excellent new online training is provided FREE, thanks to the generous support of Kidpower sponsors.
P. S. And, if you want a new t-shirt for Pride Month, I made some by commissioning original artwork. Available on RedBubble via my North Carolina Loves Equality page. RedBubble offers many styles and sizes, and you can even get a design printed on a Carolina Blue, Duke Blue, or NC State red shirt.
