Jan 6 hearings: Why wasn't Trump arrested on January 7, or 21, 2021?
Now we know what the insiders knew in real time
The January 6 Select Committee has done an amazing job with their hearings. Before White House Lawyer Pat Cipollone is interviewed tomorrow, let’s take a step back and look at what we know now, thanks to Cassidy Hutchinson and others, and ask why Donald Trump wasn’t arrested right away?
If you go back to a very early Democracy OTL post, you will see what I wrote about Wile E. Coyote:
With a hat tip to the great Lincoln’s Bible, she said that when you are learning about spies and mobsters, you can’t always see them directly but you can see the hole they leave, like Wile E. Coyote going through a wall, and that helps you figure out what is really going on.
After Cassidy Hutchinson’s testimony, and the testimony from the heads of the Justice Department, I feel like we can now see the whole outline of Wile E. Coyote and the shadow of the Road Runner!
Ask yourself: who knew about the Stop the Steal/Big Lie conspiracy before January 6? Almost everyone, including the very top leaders of the Justice Department, who were in on the January 3, 2021 Oval Office meeting where they threatened to resign en masse if Trump fired Acting AG Jeffrey Rosen to replace him with unqualified toady Jeffrey Clark.
Who knew about potential violence on January 6th? Almost everyone in power.
Were measures taken to protect the Capitol? No, on the contrary, instructions to Capitol Police left the Capitol unprotected, and police highly vulnerable to the mob.
Who knew about the coup on January 6 and beyond, absolutely everyone.
Why wasn’t Trump arrested on January 7th, or at the very least, the day after Joe Biden was Inaugurated on January 20?
What happened between January 7th, when people like Kevin McCarthy and Lindsey Graham disavowed Trump, and a few days/weeks later when they changed their tune? Were there bribes or blackmail offered? We saw McCarthy pulled back into the Trump’s loyal mob when he crawled to Mar-A-Lago on January 28 to kiss the godfather’s, er, ring.
Now that we see all this evidence, it seems eminently clear that yes, there was a big conspiracy to steal the election to Trump, and send a violent mob to attack Congress to stop the certification of the election, and what would we have done if we knew all this in real time…..? Again, who knew about all of this in real time? All the conspirators and targets including The Vice President, White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows, White House Attorney Cipollone, the Acting Attorney General & deputies, the House Minority Leader, many members of Congress, intelligence agencies, the Defense Department (Christopher Miller; and Trump had packed the Defense Department with toadies like Kash Patel after Election Day).
Republicans had a chance to rid themselves of Trump with Impeachment but they chose instead to double down on him as the head of their party.
So while yes, while there needs to be a massive investigation, I really don’t understand why the Justice Department dragged their heels so long. Why Merrick Garland acts like a wet noodle. This is an open and shut case.
But—is this America’s “you can’t handle the truth” moment?
I sure hope not, because what we need is justice and indictments for Trump, Eastman, Giuliani, Bannon, Stone, all the various Krakens and sad swamp creatures who almost took down our government and present an ongoing danger for 2022 and 2024.
