I am thinking about the future of Democracy OTL. Since I haven’t posted in months, you will not be surprised to hear that things are up in the air at the moment.
I had good momentum going until I broke my hand at the end of last March, had surgery, and had to type one-handed for a long time. And then I got Covid a couple of months later. I am extremely thankful to feel recovered now, but I really got out of the habit of writing.
I am feeling burned out in a way that is probably familiar to anyone who has lived through the pandemic AND North Carolina and US politics for the last several years. Fortunately, I am finding ways to recharge. I am just not sure about continuing this Substack.
There will be at least “one last thing before I go…” which is a post about what I have learned about recovering from Covid and hopefully avoiding Long Covid. I have so many friends who are still getting Covid, I think I really need to share what I have researched. I researched scientifically-sound ideas last summer, when I felt a distinct lack of advice coming from our medical community. This was putting my experience as a Stanford-trained Neuroscience PhD and years of science teaching to good work. And I am pleased that I am back to exercise, adventure, and tennis.
THANK YOU Jane and Donna for your encouragement to keep writing! That means a great deal to me.
I am sorry to hear that you’ve had trouble this past year, and glad to know that you’re situation is improving. These times are discouraging and exhausting for all who care about the future of our country. FWIW, I believe your writing makes a difference, and I hope you’ll continue. Best wishes and thank you for all you’ve done.
