About Dr. Amy Tiemann

I am an independent citizen-commentator. My bylined pieces published on Democracy OTL express my opinions, and do not represent any organization.

I am a proud progressive Democrat, active in political organizing, fundraising, and supporting candidates. I am not taking on the role of a neutral journalist here—rather, I am a proud partisan activist working to elect Democrats on the road to 2024.

I am a child safety expert, best-selling author, educator, and executive producer of socially relevant films. My first career was as a neuroscientist, studying at Brown, then earning my PhD from Stanford 1996. Even as I express my opinions here on Democracy OTL, I also try to provide the same high level of quality information that I would put into a book or teach in a class.

I grew up living in several swing states including Ohio, Pennsylvania, and Michigan. I spent my twenties in California. My family moved to North Carolina in 2000, and I have been extensively involved in the wild ride that is NC politics since 2004.
